ALEX JULIANO, FIREFIGHTER, WELDING COMPANY OWNER

Alex Juliano, 80, a veteran Buffalo firefighter and owner of Edison Welding Co. on Seventh Street for many years, died Thursday (July 17, 1997) in Columbia Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla., after a brief illness.

A Buffalo native, Juliano graduated from Hutchinson-Central High School and started his welding business in 1946. He worked in both that business and as a firefighter until his retirement to Sarasota, Fla., in 1972. In Sarasota, he was instrumental in organizing the St. Vincent de Paul Society and remained active in the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen until his death. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Legion of Mary. He was also a member of Council 2105, Knights of Columbus; John Paul I Lodge 2247, Sons of Italy; and Lodge 1145, Loyal Order of Moose.

A memorial Mass was held Monday in Annunciation Catholic Church, Elma.
