The city Urban Renewal Agency Monday approved signs for the outside walls of the Wintergarden, directing visitors to walk through the building to reach the Niagara Reservation State Park.
Mayor James C. Galie said, "A lot of people don't know the Wintergarden blocks the falls." The signs, shaped like a half-circle with a 12-foot diameter and outlined in neon are meant to rectify that.
People walking west from E. Dent Lackey Plaza toward the park will see a sign reading, "Walkway to the American Falls." On the other side of the Wintergarden, eastbound pedestrians will see the message, "Walkway to the Convention Center and E. Dent Lackey Plaza."
Ulrich Sign Co. will make the signs for a total price of $8,180.
