Rita M. Kurtzman, 76, a retired platform officer at Marine Midland Bank, died Saturday (July 19, 1997) in Mercy Hospital after a lengthy illness.
The former Rita M. Clabeaux was born in Buffalo. She worked at the main branch of Marine Midland Bank for 22 years, beginning as a bank teller and working her way up to platform officer.
She was a longtime member of Beulah Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, where in 1961 she assumed the position of matron.
Since 1958, she had been a member of Athor Temple 19, Daughters of the Nile, and in 1989 she became the organization's queen. In 1994, while attending the Supreme Session of Daughters of the Nile in Toronto, she was honored by being appointed supreme escort to the Canadian flag.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Jack of Hamburg; two sons, Jack of China Lake, Maine, and Ted of Orchard Park; a sister, Audrey Bestehorn of Lancaster; two brothers, Louis of Florida and Richard; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Wesleyan Church of Hamburg, 4999 McKinley Parkway. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hamburg. (rhoads)
