A State Supreme Court jury has awarded $3.9 million to a painter who was seriously injured in a fall from a scaffold at Eden Elementary School on April 5, 1995.
A six-member jury returned the verdict for Voncho Zora Boshnakov, 46, following an eight-day trial before State Supreme Court Justice Eugene F. Pigott Jr. Boshnakov came to this country from Macedonia in 1970.
A member of Painters District Council 4, Boshnakov was employed by Color Technics Painting Corp. of Buffalo at the time. He was working in the school auditorium when he fell about 25 feet, landing on chairs and injuring his lower back, left knee and both ankles.
His lawyers, Daniel B. Kane and Paul W. Beltz, said Boshnakov was hospitalized for 11 days following the accident and has had four surgeries on his knee and ankle. He faces more surgery and has no prospects for employment, his attorneys said.
