If you're a single parent with a daughter, get a life and let her have one of her own. A life totally dedicated to one's child can be detrimental to girls, family counselor Gayle Powers says in the Daughters newsletter.
"Girls often deny their own needs to take care of others," Ms. Powers says. "If a girl feels she has to take care of her parent, the only way she may be able to break out of that role is by getting really angry."
