Assemblyman Thomas DiNapoli, D-Long Island, said Monday he is interested in running for lieutenant governor next year.

A member of the Assembly since 1986, DiNapoli said he met with state Comptroller H. Carl McCall last week to tell the potential Democratic candidate for governor about his interest.

DiNapoli said he would not run for lieutenant governor if McCall was the party's candidate for governor, saying he did not want McCall on the ticket.

McCall is from New York City, and his camp has been considering lining him up with someone from the suburbs or from the upstate region if he runs for governor.
