CIRCULATION UP 19 PERCENT AT DENIO MEMORIAL LIBRARY

An annual report of the Denio Memorial Library on John Street in the Village of Akron shows library circulation for 1996 was 41,736, a 19 percent increase from 1995.

The report also indicates the library drew 21,736 visitors and noted that 2,132 new books and audiovisual materials were
purchased.

"We have been very pleased with participation in our preschool reading programs," said librarian Kristine Sutton. She added that total attendance at story times for children, 3 to 5 years old, was 259, and 56 children ages 6 to 12 attended the "Summer Fun Club."

The report showed successful fund-raising events and a state grant that helped develop and foster the library connection to the community.

Renovation plans for the library are currently being studied by Newstead officials.

Earlier this year the Town Board made $100,000 available to review options and make necessary improvements.
