Charles C. Gibbs, 66, a retired state trooper, died Sunday (July 20, 1997) at Mitchell Campus of Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a long illness.
Born in Depew, he attended Niagara University, majoring in business. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was a member of Twin Village Post 463, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Gibbs served with the State Police for 20 years, launching his career in 1961. He was based in Henrietta and Painted Post and completed his career in Clarence.
He was a member of the Association of Former New York State Troopers and was an exempt member of Cayuga Hose Company of the Depew Fire Department. He also was director and treasurer of the New Voice Club of the Niagara Frontier and was a member of the Young Men's Association of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lancaster.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, the former Sheila Hynes; a daughter, Janis M. of Holland, Mich.; a brother, James of Depew; and a sister, Karen Marcezin of Depew.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. John's Lutheran Church, 55 Pleasant Ave., Lancaster. Burial will be in Lancaster Rural Cemetery. (rhoads)
