Anthony J. Kindzia Sr., 80, who owned and operated the former Club 1770 on Falls Street from 1945 to 1952, died Friday (July 18, 1997) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.

Kindzia, who was known as Whitey, was a Niagara Falls native. An avid sportsman, he pitched for the International Paper Co. baseball team and played in American Legion baseball.

Kindzia retired in 1982. He was a member of Local 129, Plumbers and Steamfitters.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, the former Jean Tomala; four sons, Anthony J. Jr. and Donald, both of Wheatfield, Jerald of Pittsburgh and Robert of Williamsville; a sister, Nellie Misch; three brothers, Walter of Florida, Benjamin and John; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1419 Falls St., after prayers at 9 in Labuda Funeral Home, 356 Portage Road. (r/stanley)
