DUNKIRK SEEKS TO LEASE EQUIPMENT

The proposed capital budget for 1997 contains $55,000 for leased fire equipment, Mayor Margaret Wuerstle said Wednesday, following the budget review by the Common Council on Tuesday night.

The city has contacted eight companies that might be interested in leasing equipment to the city and has received letters of intent, she added.

The proposed capital budget listed $100,000 for leasing equipment for the fire, police and public works departments, with most of the money for the Fire Department. The budgeted amount for protective gear for the volunteer fire department had been $10,000 for the last two years, but was cut to $5,000 for 1997, she said.

The Council reviewed the proposed budget for the Fire Department Tuesday and was concerned when Fire Chief Michael Edwards said that three of the city's four pumper trucks would need to be replaced in the next five years.
