EXCAVATION COLLAPSE HURTS FOREMAN

A Buffalo Water Department foreman was in serious condition Saturday in Erie County Medical Center with a back injury he suffered when an excavation wall collapsed on him while he was repairing a water line.

Karl Hawthorn was in a hole about 7 feet deep on Clinton Street at about 1:30 p.m. Friday when part of the wall behind him collapsed. He was freed by co-workers and firefighters.
