The Arab American Center at 444 Connecticut St. was vandalized over the weekend, and more than 60 school desks were taken from the classrooms.
Mohamed Ali, a spokesman for the Arab American Federation of Western New York, said Sunday that all the windows were broken in the first-floor social rooms, and the walls and ceilings were destroyed in the prayer room on the second floor.
The desks and books were taken from two classrooms on the second floor, he said. Police said someone gained entry by forcing the side door on Saturday.
Some papers were burned in the building, but fire investigators determined that arson was not involved.
Ali said an estimate of the damage is pending.
