A tour operator that sold package trips went out of business Friday, stranding 2,000 travelers in the Caribbean and Mexico and disrupting the vacation plans of thousands of others.

Club America Vacations shut down operations because of financial losses it sustained trying to rebook charter flights on its main carrier, Private Jet.

The Atlanta-based airline went out of business two weeks ago. The Atlanta-based tour company sold package trips to the Caribbean and Mexico from Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Washington and other cities.
