A 12-year-old boy who collapsed after being involved in a fight Friday was later determined to be critically injured, police said.
Police said they were called shortly before 6:30 p.m. after the youth returned to his East Street home and passed out. He was taken to Children's Hospital.
The unidentified youth was undergoing surgery late Friday to relieve pressure on his brain and was in guarded condition, according to Homicide Bureau Lt. William Conwall.
The youth was punched in the head during a fight with a 15-year-old acquaintance, Conwall said. The two had resolved their differences and made up before going their separate ways, he said.
The assailant, whose name was withheld because of his age, will be petitioned to Family Court.
