Kara Rodger had an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning as St. Bonaventure beat Canisius, 5-4, in the first game of a softball doubleheader Thursday at the Demske Sports Complex.
Nikki Pavlick was 3 for 3 withan RBI for Bona, which had only seven hits but took advantage of four Canisius errors.
Mary Moser had an RBI double and scored the tying run in a three-run seventh for the Bonnies. Freshman Joanna Tuk (Sacred Heart) was the winning pitcher.
Canisius (8-7) got even in the nightcap as North Tonawanda product Shelly Lis drove in two runs, stole three bases and starting pitcher Kristina Chavez (4-2) struck out five in an 11-2 rout. The game was shortened to five innings because of the eight-run rule. Missy Rust had three hits for the Bonnies (4-6-1).
Elsewhere, Ellie Hanover (Depew) and Billie Patterson (Jamestown) had two RBIs each as Erie Community College won its first game of the season, 9-5, over Illinois' Trinity Christian in Orlando, Fla. Hanover, Melissa McFadden and Kelly Wallace had two hits apiece.
McFadden added two more hits and pitched a three-hitter, but it wasn't enough for ECC (1-6), which dropped its second game to Morton (Ill.) CC, 3-1.
