MAYVILLE -- The person who cut open a raccoon from head to tail is in danger of contacting rabies.
And the Chautauqua County Health Department is urging that person to step forward or get treatment immediately.
In what health officials say is "a peculiar and worrisome case," the body of the raccoon, which was tested as rabid, was tossed into a back yard on Baker Street Extension in the Town of North Harmony. A family dog got hold of the animal but tests on the canine proved negative.
Robert Lincoln, assistant environmental health director, issued the alert Thursday.
