PHONY MONEY BRINGS CHARGE AGAINST MAN

A Franklinville man is being held in the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail after he was arrested for allegedly having counterfeit bills, police said.

Richard L. Climenhaga, 18, of Washburn Street is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the first degree. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon by Cattaraugus County sheriff's investigators following complaints that some counterfeit $20 bills were being passed in the area.

Justice James Close set bail and remanded him to the Little Valley jail.

Ike Hendershot, agent in charge of the Buffalo office of the U.S. Secret Service, said his agency's investigators are working with the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department in what he described as an ongoing investigation.
