Lawrence J. Bernat, 58, of 91st Street, a retired music teacher in Niagara Falls public schools, died Thursday (March 30, 1995) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, after a brief illness.
A native of Niagara Falls, Bernat attended Niagara Falls High School and Fredonia State College.
He taught music in local schools for 33 years until he retired in 1992.
He also directed the Echo Singing Society for three years in the 1970s and was active in the choruses of St. Michael's Polish National Catholic Church and St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
He was a member of the Niagara Falls Teachers Association.
Survivors include his wife, the former Marcia Frick; a son, James of Chestertown; two daughters, Lauren Stirling of East Amherst and Amelia Bowman of Wilson; two sisters, Betty Golaszewski of Wheatfield and Judy Williams of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Richard; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Michael's Church, 250 27th St., after prayers at 9:45 in Cooper Funeral Home, 8028 Buffalo Ave.
