Joseph P. Frese is being appointed to the Williamsville Village Board, replacing Basil J. Piazza, whom voters promoted from trustee to mayor in the March 21 election.
Frese, Piazza, Trustees-elect Barbara B. Schofield and William A. Wutz and Justice Victoria D'Angelo will take their oaths of office at 5 p.m. Sunday in Village Hall.
Frese will serve as a mayoral appointee until the village election next year. The Village Board's annual reorganizational meeting will be Monday.
Frese and Piazza were Harmony Party running mates in the 1993 election. Piazza won a seat vacated by James P. Hayes, now an Amherst council member, but Trustee Yvonne Kaye fought off Frese and Walter R. Pacer to keep her seat.
In April 1994, Frese reportedly was the choice of Mayor Ronald W. Daniels to replace Patrick M. Kelly on the Village Board when Kelly was named village attorney. However, Frese withdrew and Daniels named Lawrence J. Hillebrand, who didn't seek re-election.
Frese, 41, a businessman, is chairman of the village Parks Committee and a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
A past president of Hutchinson Hose Company, Williamsville Fire Department, the new trustee has also been active in youth baseball and football.
