An 18-year-old Fredonia man accused of selling anabolic steroids in and around Fredonia High School has been charged with numerous felonies after a three-month undercover investigation.
Michael J. Herlong of Water Street was arrested Wednesday after a brief struggle in a parking lot on Route 60 in Pomfret.
Fredonia and state police say Herlong was the head of a steroid distribution network operating in Fredonia and neighboring towns. He is accused of selling steroids to undercover officers on three occasions.
The steroids, which come in both liquid and solid form and cost as much as $500 for a four-to-six-week cycle, can lead to serious health problems, police said.
Herlong was arraigned Wednesday before Pomfret Town Justice David Prince. He was jailed in lieu of $20,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday in Pomfret Town Court.
