VARITY UNIT WINS PACT FOR NEW LOTUS BRAKE JOB

Varity Corp.'s Kelsey-Hayes subsidiary has won a contract to supply four-wheel anti-lock brake systems for a new version of the Lotus Esprit, an expensive British sports car that is scheduled to go on sale during the 1997 model year.

The Buffalo-based automotive component and diesel engine manufacturer declined Wednesday to reveal the terms of the deal, although it also said Lotus has picked Kelsey-Hayes as its partner in developing anti-lock brakes for future Lotus models.
