An unleashed pit bull terrier attacked three Bronx boys -- leaving two hospitalized.
Joe Dante, 14, and Michael Diaz, 9, were in stable condition today after surgery in Bronx Lebanon Hospital, said Officer Arek Tarih, a police spokesman.
Without warning, the dog tore into the two boys and Derrick Rambert, 12, at 167th Street and Franklin Avenue in the Melrose section at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, Tarih said. Derrick was treated for bites on his foot and released, the officer said.
When police arrived, they shot the dog with a Taser, a special gun that sends a charge of electricity into its target and temporarily paralyzes it.
The dog was taken to a Manhattan animal shelter, but it was dead when police officers dropped it off.
Tarih said Bronx police were looking for the dog's owner.
