UB'S MEDICAL SCHOOL SHOULD FOLLOW LEADERS

It is sad to learn about Dr. John Naughton's impending resignation as dean of the University at Buffalo Medical School in 1996. Dr. Naughton has been a dynamic physician who has brought a lot of good changes in our medical school curriculum.

He has aggressively pursued recruitment for family-care physicians and also recruited minorities and women to further enhance our medical school's image and reputation.

UB might consider becoming a university-based teaching hospital modeled after the University of Iowa or the University of Illinois, where the best academic professors in medicine would deliver health care, engage in research and be actively engaged in the medical education of young physicians and medical students.
