RAYTHEON OFFERS BUYOUT TO 2,300

Raytheon Co. said it has offered a buyout package to about 2,300 non-union defense workers to trim their ranks by 9 percent as part of its massive cost cutting plan.

A spokeswoman said Raytheon hoped the buyouts will contribute to "management initiatives" to cut costs by $135 million this year, part of its larger plan to cut $600 million in expenses by 1999.
