SEAT BELTS ARE CREDITED WITH MINIMIZING INJURIES

Seat belts and an air bag prevented serious injuries to two motorists whose cars collided Tuesday morning at a Town of Alden intersection, sheriff's deputies said.

Patricia Wawrzyniak, 42, of Alden, was westbound on Genesee Street and Donald Barnard, 47, of Marilla, was northbound on Peters Corners Road when he apparently pulled out in front of her after stopping for the stop sign on Peters Corners Road, deputies said. Barnard's car was hit broadside on the passenger side, then traveled into the front porch of a house at the corner of Genesee and South Newstead Road, which is opposite Peters
Corners Road.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, deputies said, and Ms. Wawrzyniak's car was equipped with an air bag that inflated on impact. Barnard and Ms. Wawrzyniak were treated at the scene by firefighters from the Millgrove and Crittenden fire departments.

The front porch of the house sustained minor damage,
deputies said.

Barnard was issued a summons for failure to yield the right of way, deputies said.
