MEDINA BOARD INCREASES BASIC CHARGE FOR WATER

The Medina Village Board Tuesday voted to increase the base household water bill by nearly 50 percent, to $25.75 from $17.25 per quarter.

Board members said the move was necessary to cover an increased bill from Niagara County, the village's water
supplier.

Last year Medina had budgeted $38,000 for water but in June received a bill for $112,000 from Niagara County, the village's share of an unexpected deficit in that county's Water Department.

The figure was later bargained down to $82,000. Village officials expect to pay $90,000 for water this year.

Medina's contract with Niagara County, signed in 1959, expires in four years. The board is already exploring other
options.
