Mayor Donald Lazar's proposed $1.34 million budget for 1995-96 was unanimously adopted by the Gowanda Village Board Tuesday.
The tax rate will go up 50 cents to $59.63 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for residents in the Erie County section of the village, while residents in Cattaraugus County will pay $54.53. A total of $840,273 will need to be raised through taxes.
In another matter, trustees expect to take action Monday on a newly proposed state retirement incentive program after their scheduled reorganization meeting. The retirement package could affect up to four village employees, Lazar said.
Under special state guidelines employees age 50 with at least 10 years employment are now eligible for the retirement program. They would receive an additional month of retirement benefits for each year employed up to a maximum 36 months. Employees must elect to do so during a 60-day period from May 1 to June 30 once the law is enacted, Lazar said.
The state program could help reduce salary costs since the retirees would either not be replaced or be replaced by workers at reduced salaries, Lazar said.
