I am constrained to write as relates to a March 12 editorial cartoon that appeared in The News concerning "spurious lawsuits."
I am not writing because of the "copy." In fact, Arlo J. Spiess did an excellent job of describing the traumatic events, economically and psychologically, that result from needless lawsuits.
What disturbs me is the cartoon that was recaptured from the Chicago Tribune. I wish to highlight what I consider to be blatant discrimination against an ethnic group in these United States of America, namely the Americans of Italian heritage. I see no match-up between the hideous names of the so-called law firm and then the recital, parenthetically, that their expensive suits are matched with Italian loafers.
We need to be constantly vigilant as to the equality of treatment to all citizens, and it disturbs me that the Tribune would permit such an editorial and that it would be syndicated throughout the media.
