USAIR DEAL CUTS PILOTS' PAY 20%

USAir Group Inc. pilots would accept pay cuts of 20 percent and 300 layoffs under a deal struck Saturday to keep the airline alive, in exchange for stock in the company, a share of annual profits and a voting seat on the board of directors, the Washington Post said today.

The paper, quoting sources close to the talks, said the cutbacks were valued at $190 million a year.

USAir and the Air Line Pilots Association said Saturday they tentatively agreed on wage and other concessions in exchange for what was described as "financial returns and governance participation".
