FORD PLANS MAJOR OUTLAY IN BRAZIL

SAO PAULO, Brazil (Reuters) -- Ford Motor Co. will invest $2.5 billion in Brazil by the year 2000 to modernize plants and begin producing the Fiesta model, Ford Chief Executive Alex Trotman said today.

"We want to make it clear we are committed. We want to see our share of the market in Brazil increase," Trotman said.

Ford will invest $1.1 billion in Brazil by 1996, principally to set up production of the Fiesta small car, as part of a five-year investment plan that will total $2 billion, and perhaps more, by the year 2000, Trotman said.
