Kenmore West product Paul Wolf singled in Scott Jusiak in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday as Erie Community College overcame an 11-run deficit to beat Franklin Pierce of New Hampshire, 15-14, at Fort Myers, Fla.
Franklin Pierce took advantage of 12 walks and four errors to build a 13-2 lead through four innings. But ECC scored seven in the fourth, two in the fifth and tied it on an RBI double by Tom Stanek (Lackawanna) in the seventh. Relief pitcher Michael Pierce (Cheektowaga) kept the Kats in the game by holding Franklin Pierve hitless over the last four innings.
ECC dropped a 12-5 decision to Edison CC in the second game. Edison (20-18) took the lead for good with a six-run fifth inning. Cory Hover (Ken West) had two doubles for ECC (2-1).
GOLF: St. Bonaventure is tied for 13th after the first day of the 18-team Loyola (Md.) Invitational at Hunt Valley Golf Club. Leading the Bonnies is Ed Suchora, who shot a 7-over-par 79. Penn State leads the team competition, while Mark Parisi of St. Joseph's was the opening-day medalist.
