BELL CANADA TO TRIM 10,000 JOBS

Canada's largest telecommunications operating company, Bell Canada, said Monday it plans to reduce its work force by 22 percent over the next three years.

Bell Canada said it will cut 10,000 jobs from its work force of 45,906 between 1995 and 1997, as part of a "business transformation" costing $1.2 billion.

Some of the job cuts will come from attrition, early retirement and part-time employment, but an as yet unspecified portion will come from layoffs.
