BEIJING ZOO PANDA GIVEN TRANSFUSIONS

An anemic panda in the Beijing zoo has been given blood transfusions from two black bears and is on the road to recovery, according to an official report today.

The panda, Yongliang, is 2 years old. He is the first panda to be raised from birth by humans, the Xinmin Evening News reported.

Zookeepers turned to the black bears because they were afraid that taking blood from a healthy panda would affect its breeding capabilities.
