'OUTBREAK' HOLDS TOP SPOT AT BOX OFFICE FOR 3RD WEEK

The medical thriller "Outbreak" remained the hottest box-office attraction for a third consecutive weekend, bringing in an estimated $8.2 million, industry sources said Sunday.

Two new films rounded out the top three. "Major Payne," starring Damon Wayans, earned $7 million and "Dolores Claiborne," featuring Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh, followed with $5.9 million.

Final results on ticket sales Friday through Sunday will be released today. The top 10 films at U.S. and Canadian theaters, based on early estimates, were:

1. "Outbreak," $8.2 million. 2. "Mayor Payne," $7 million. 3. "Dolores Claiborne," $5.9 million. 4. "Man of the House," $3.5 million. 5. "Tall Tale: The Unbelievable Adventures of Pecos Bill," $3 million. 6. "Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh," $2.9 million. 7. "Bye Bye, Love," $2.6 million. 8. "Muriel's Wedding," $2.5 million. 9. "Pulp Fiction," $2.2 million. 10. "Forrest Gump," $2 million.
