INCREASE IN SCHOOL TAXES FORESEEN IN NORTH COLLINS

The North Collins Central School budget for 1995-96 almost certainly will require a tax rate increase, according to
Superintendent Gary Nicholson.

"Our very preliminary budget shows a $384,000, or 4.8 percent, rise over this year's $7.95 million budget," Nicholson said. "The board will be working at its April 5 meeting and other sessions to trim the first draft budget."

The district's current 768 enrollment is slightly higher than expected.

But certain items, such as a $67,000 rise in the contracted salary schedule and a $100,000 rise in the program for handicapped children cannot be avoided, he said. Last year, the board trimmed a number of items such as teacher supplies, he added.
