A jet fuel explosion near a military arms depot set off a raging fire Sunday, killing two people and seriously injuring at least three others.
Fire Chief Oscar Bonilla said the fire was brought under control before it reached the depot, which is stocked with explosives, guns, grenades and dynamite.
Earlier, nearby residents were advised to evacuate and flights were rerouted from the country's main international airport, which abuts the military base on the edge of Guatemala City. The airport reopened Sunday night.
Military spokesman Gerardo Montenegro blamed the explosion on underground fuel storage tanks.
