John Wayne Bobbitt is scheduled for Family Court May 5 to answer charges of failing to pay $50,000 in child support to a Town of Lewiston woman.

Bobbitt's attorney, Michael Iocono of Buffalo, and William J. Berard III, the attorney for the woman, Beatrice Williams, met Friday to arrange the special trial. Family Court Hearing Examiner Spencer Lerch set the date.

The attorneys said Bobbitt had promised to pay Miss Williams the $50,000 in exchange for visitation rights to the child Bobbitt admitted fathering. The payment was due last week.

"I don't believe our problem is with Bobbitt," Berard said. "I think it's the people handling his money. We're still trying to negotiate. Maybe this trial date will force the issue."

Bobbitt, a former resident of the Town of Niagara, achieved notoriety when his former wife cut off his penis, which was later reattached.
