Like the average person, I've been in situations where I've had to choose one course of action over another; where I've had to decide what was right and what was wrong. Fortunately for me, as a child I was taught to use the tried-and-true method of letting my conscience be my guide. And, to date, it has yet to fail me.
Crystal Peoples is clearly the conscience of Erie County's Legislature. She alone, of all the 17 legislators, voted against the $20 million county commitment to the Crossroads project.
She was the only one with enough courage to suggest that, in our financially strapped region, there are probably better uses $20 million could be put to other than building a hockey arena.
In the future, I would say to our county legislators, "Pay closer attention to Ms. Peoples and the position she takes on critical issues. She may very well be the only hope for distinguishing right from wrong."
