A bass guitar signed by Paul McCartney and unpublished lyrics by another onetime member of the Beatles pop group, the late John Lennon, fetched thousands of dollars Thursday at a top auction house.
More than 2,000 negatives and contacts dating both from the Beatles' early days and the height of their fame raised nearly $23,900, about 10 times the expected amount, said an auctioneer at Bonhams.
The Lennon lyrics went for more than $12,700.
A hand-drawn design by McCartney sold for slightly more than $3,180, while the guitar carrying his signature went for $9,145.
The sale was part of a three-day auction of rock and pop memorabilia.
