2 TEENS KILLED, 3 INJURED WHEN AUTO STRIKES TREE

Two teen-age girls died Thursday afternoon and three boys were injured when their car hit a tree in the Town of Portville, Cattaraugus County sheriff's
deputies said.

The accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Haskell Road, about one-tenth of a mile north of Wolf Run Road, deputies said.

A car driven by Cristine A. Covey, 15, of Route 40, Friendship, was southbound when she lost control of it after crossing a steel deck bridge, deputies said. The car ran off the right side of the road, back across the northbound lane and into a tree.

Cristine and Marsha Keamek, 16, of Route 305, Cuba, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers, John Irvin, 19, of Hinsdale, and Steven Russell, 22, of Pennsylvania Avenue, Olean, were flown to the Erie County Medical Center.

Adam Bearfield, 16, of Hinsdale, who police said suffered minor injuries, was taken to Olean General Hospital.
