Production and maintenance employees of E.R. Industries Inc. in the Town of Tonawanda will have to wait to find out the results of a union representation election.
Seventeen of the 27 ballots that were cast have been challenged by the company and the United Auto Workers, according to Richard L. Ahearn, Buffalo regional director of the National Labor Relations Board.
Thirty employees were eligible to vote in the election, which was supervised by the NLRB. Of the valid ballots, the UAW was selected by a margin of 7 to 3.
However, Ahearn said the election results may change once the challenged ballots are opened. NLRB investigators will examine the grounds for the challenges and attempt to resolve the issues. The process could take several months, he said.
