Michigan State responded to a Canisius fourth-quarter rally with six unanswered goals and defeated the Griffs, 25-18, Wednesday in college lacrosse in the Demske Sports Complex.
Chris Clark, a sophomore from Orchard Park, had two goals for Michigan State (2-3).
Canisius (2-2) got five goals and an assist from Cort Knodel (St. Francis), four goals and two assists from Jason Cummings and four goals from Scott Ronson. Kevin Rozo (Williamsville South) made 33 saves in the Canisius net.
BASEBALL: Bryan Dean (LaSalle) singled, doubled and drove in a run in Fredonia State's 14-3 loss to Hiram College of Ohio in Fort Myers, Fla. The Blue Devils (3-5) have three games left on their southern swing.
Cecil Community College used five home runs to rout Genesee Community College, 14-4, in Baltimore. Genesee then tied Essex Community, 4-4, in a game called after nine innings because of darkness. Mark Yost worked out of a bases-loaded game in the ninth to preserve the tie for Genesee. Aaron Diamond (Westfield) had two hits in each game.
SOFTBALL: Buffalo State lost, 5-3, to Minnesota-Duluth and Southern Connecticut in a double-header played in Fort Myers, Fla. Buffalo State's Cheryl Isbrandt (Cheektowaga) had two hits and two RBIs against Minnesota-Duluth, and a three-run homer against Southern Connecticut.
