PACT WITH CRIME AGENCY CANCELED

The Dunkirk Common Council has unanimously voted to cancel its contract with Oasis Institute of Florida, which was supposed to present programs for combating crime.

The city had paid the firm about half of the $55,000 contracted for, but the council said the necessary reports and recommendations were never made. Mayor Margaret Wuerstle had asked that Ronald Range, president of the Institute, appear before the Common Council to explain the situation. Councilman at Large Ralph Letersky said the Council did not feel the appearance to be necessary.

In other business Tuesday, the Council authorized the mayor to apply for a 1995 federal community development block grant of $686,000, a cut of $47,000.

The Council wants the funds used to improve the housing for low- and moderate-income city residents.
