HOWARD F. MCHENRY, RETIRED IRS OFFICIAL

A private funeral for Howard F. McHenry, a former assistant regional commissioner of intelligence for the Internal Revenue Service, will be held in Lester H. Wedekindt Funeral Home, 3290 Delaware Ave., Town of Tonawanda.

McHenry, 77, died Tuesday (March 21, 1995) in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Oswego and was a graduate of the University of Buffalo with a business degree. He served in World War II with the 8th Army Air Force in England as a B-24 pilot.

A resident of Amherst, he joined the IRS in 1950 and worked in Buffalo, Batavia and New York City. He held his IRS post in Manhattan until his retirement in 1975.

He was a member of Augustana Evangelical Church, Town of Tonawanda, and also was active as a community volunteer as a tutor in literacy.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta of Amherst; two sisters, Eileen Smith and Patricia Nowak; and a brother, Albert W. of Fairfax, Va.
