Marking time in Venice, so to speak -- for the past 900 years -- is the Basilica of St. Mark, celebrating its 900th anniversary. The feast of St. Mark on April 25 kicked off the Year of St. Mark, a yearlong program of exhibitions, conferences and concerts commemorating the cathedral's consecration.
Oct. 8 is the actual anniversary, with a "Tribute to St. Mark" exhibit opening at the Ducal Palace that day. An exhibit of songbooks from the basilica also will be on view at the National Library of St. Mark's in September and October. Call the Italian Government Tourist Office, (212) 245-4822.
