After days of watching impossibly thin models as young as 15 wear the latest fashions, retailers and reporters enjoyed seeing models from the '70s and '80s return to one runway during the fall fashion previews, staged earlier this month is New York.

Designer Donna Karan delighted the audience with such familiar faces as Buffalo-born Beverly Johnson, Patti Hanson, Veruschka and Isabella Rossellini. Bianca Jagger and Sofia Coppola also modeled for Karan.

"By using models in their 40s and 50s, Karan made her point that she's designing for adult women, not waifs," wrote the San Jose Mercury News.

Added the Chicago Tribune: "The divas from modeling's Hall of Fame strutted down the catwalk looking crinkly-eyed and faaaab-u-lous. . . . Sure, their presence at Donna Karan's finale showing at the ready-to-wear collections in the Bryant Park tents was a gimmick. But hey, it worked."
