Funeral services for Roy F. Kanehl, a stock car driver in the 1940s and 1950s, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Edward J. Cichon Funeral Home, 4929 Broadway, Depew.
Burial will be in Bowmansville Cemetery.
Kanehl, a resident of Akron, died Sunday (April 24, 1994) in Sisters Hospital after a brief illness. He was 70.
The Depew native attended local schools before going into business as an excavator and then a used car and truck dealer. He moved his used car dealership several times over the years, locating it in Depew, Cheektowaga, Clarence, Lancaster and Akron.
He raced Grand National stock cars throughout the United States for about 20 years. His best race was a third-place finish in the 1953 Daytona 500.
Kanehl was a member of Sullivan Road Baptist Church.
His wife, the former Ellen Chase, died in 1992.
Survivors include his three sons, Charles of Florida, Walter of Lancaster and Ronald of South Carolina; three daughters, Florence Marzec of Amherst, Rose Heller of Pennsylvania and Sally of Akron; a sister, Dorothy Thor of Alma; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
