SKELETONS OF TWO CHILDREN MAY BE FROM 19TH CENTURY

An anthropologist says two skeletons found underneath an elementary school are those of young 19th century settlers who may have died in an epidemic.

The bones were found as workers excavated for an elevator foundation at Homer Elementary School, about 30 miles south of Syracuse, officials said Tuesday.

Ellis McDowell-Loudan, a professor at Cortland State College, came to the preliminary conclusion that the two people probably were white settlers about 10- and 15-years-old when they died.
