A memorial service for Dr. Joseph C. Tedesco, a retired orthopedic surgeon, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Norman E. Gannon & Sons Funeral Home, 1075 Ridge Road, Lackawanna.
An Orchard Park resident, Tedesco, 85, died Sunday (April 24, 1994) in Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Lackawanna, following a one-month illness. He will be entombed in Forest Lawn Mausoleum.
Tedesco retired in 1983 after practicing for 35 years in Buffalo, where he served on the staff of Millard Fillmore Hospital.
A 1931 graduate of the University of Buffalo Medical School, Tedesco initially practiced general medicine in Delevan and Arcade. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the European Theater from 1942 through 1946.
Following the war, he trained in orthopedic surgery and then opened a practice in Buffalo.
Tedesco was a member of the Erie County Medical Society, New York State Medical Society, New York Orthopedic Association and Baccelli Medical Club. He was also a member of the Transit Valley Country Club and the Monterey Yacht and Country Club, Stuart, Fla.
He was a 1927 graduate of Forestville High School.
Tedesco is survived by his wife, the former Eleanor Hatch; two sons, Dr. James L. of Orchard Park, and Thomas J.; three sisters, Josephine Mills, Rose Dempsey and Frances Cary, all of Buffalo; and two grand-daughters.
