County Executive Gorski presided at the bulldozing today of old buildings on the Cheektowaga site of a Benderson Development Co. hotel-restaurant project at Walden Avenue and Anderson Street.

The project will include a Hampton Inn and Bob Evans Restaurant and allow for future development and is predicted to produce 130 permanent jobs.

The Erie County Industrial Development Agency, as an incentive, allowed Benderson school tax relief that will begin at 40 percent and fall to zero in the tenth year. As part of the agreement, Benderson will clean up the long-vacant Ernst Steel warehouse site, the future site of the restaurant. Benderson will raze the former Maier-Schuele GMC truck dealership and Scott Aviation buildings and construct a 134-room Hampton Inn.

It is estimated that the cost of razing buildings and environmental cleanup at the site could reach $2 million. The total cost of the project is pegged at $6 million.
